DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF LIVER ABSCESS
Abstract
The availability of advanced imaging techniques herald a new era in the management of liver abscess; allowing earlier diagnosis, more precise localization and accurate percutaneous or surgical drainage. Ultrasonography and / or CT-and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) are today the gold standard among diagnostic modalities in the patients suffered from high fever, painful tender hepatomegaly and rigor. Therapeutic goal of hepatic abscess includes antibiotics, adequate drainage of the liver abscess, and simultaneous elimination of underlying causative factors. The most widely used and successful therapy for multiple pyogenic abscess of the liver, however, remains open surgical drainage in order to decline the high mortality.
